Yesterday I had the pleasure of accompanying Maggie Doyle on her first two engagements as Worcestershire Poet Laureate. Both of them had to be rescheduled following the unprecedented storm that we had last Thursday morning, and to start with we were guests on the Tammy Gooding show on BBC Hereford and Worcester. It turns out that Tammy is a poet in her own right and she loves the fact that the County has a female Poet Laureate (go girl power) and we had a fantastic time being on her show and I am looking forward to seeing her next week when we meet up with David Calcutt to go on the Worcester Choral Poem Walk.
After this Maggie and I had a meeting about where we see the Poet Laureateship going in the cafe at The Hive, and then we had tea in the Mayor’s Parlour in the Guildhall in Worcester with The Right Worshipful The Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Roger Berry, and the Mayoress. We were treated to a tour of the Guildhall and the Parlour and both are very keen to support and help the Festival and the Laureateship, for which we are very grateful. A truly fantastic afternoon.
In all I am very excited with how everything is progressing, both with the Poet Laureateship and with the Festival, and I am as proud as punch to have instigated both in the County… but I could not have done it without the help of everyone involved and the WLF team. You know who you all are!
