The WLF&F and D1100 eClub Young Writer Competition 2014

We’re looking for fiction writing, poetry or prose, of no longer than 300 words to be submitted to us by 25 April 2014.

The theme is ‘Before the War’ or ‘A Prelude to War’

Competition now open to all Young Writers.

Competition Rules

    1. Closing date is 25 April 2014.
    2. The maximum word limit is 300, not including the title (no minimum).
    3. One entry only per young writer. Do not submit work more than once.
    4. Submitted pieces must not have been published elsewhere and must be the entrant’s own original work. Translations of anyone else’s work are not eligible. Copyright remains with the writer.
    5. Entries may be published on the WLF&F website and social media, read at WLF&F events and included in an anthology later in the year.
    6. Entries must be in English.
    7. Submit entries by email to secretary@worcslitfest.co.uk
    8. The subject line of the e-mail must say: WLF&F Young Writer.
    9. A circa 50 word profile of the young writer should be written in the body of the email.
    10. Entries should be attached as a Word or an RTF document. Give your name and contact details in the body of the email, as well as the title and word count of your submission. The entry and consent form below must be completed and digitally signed by you and your parent / guardian and be emailed with your entry.
    11. Entries should be single spaced, in a legible 12pt font such as Times New Roman or Arial.
    12. The winners and runners-up will be announced at the WLF&F Launch event at The Guildhall in Worcester on 20 June 2014.
    13. The theme is ‘Before the War’ or ‘A Prelude to War’ and all styles and genres are welcome.
    14. No correspondence will be entered into regarding the outcome of this competition.

Entry into the competition signifies entrants’ agreement to these rules.

Age Groups

JUNIOR: Aged 7 – 10 years
INTERMEDIATE: Aged 11 – 13 years
SENIOR: Aged 14 – 17 years
on 31 August 2014

All entries will be judged by a panel of judges.

Judges have been selected for experience in literature, journalism or related experience and will include judges from the writing community and Rotary International.

Competition closes 25 April 2014

Results will be announced 20 June 2014 at the WLF&F Launch event at The Guildhall, Worcester. Keep this date free in your diary!
